Attendance Intervention Policy

The Rome City School District recognizes a critical relationship between class attendance and a student’s academic performance. Consequently, a student’s final grade may be affected based on the number of days the student is absent.

A student that has exceeded 20 daily absences in a previous year will be required to attend a parent-teachers’ conference at the beginning of the following school year. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss student’s attendance and create interventions that could assist the student in improving his/her attendance for the school year.

For a student to attend summer school, (if summer school is offered) they must maintain 80% attendance in his/her class (full-year course - 33 absences/half-year course – 16 absences).

A student who is denied the opportunity to attend summer school because they failed to maintain the 80% attendance rate may request an appeal. This appeal is to review their attendance record and document any claim of extenuating circumstances. An appeal must be submitted in writing to the building principal within ten school days of receiving the summer school notification. The appeals committee shall consist of at least three people, one of which must be an administrator.
